Jonah Chapter 2

Jonah prayed to the Lord his God out of the fish's belly.
He said, I cried out to the Lord from my distress and He heard me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried out and you heard my voice.
You cast me into the depths of the sea and the flood submerged me. All of your breakers and waves passed over me.
Then I said, I am cast out from your sight. Yet I will look again toward your holy temple.
The water engulfed me even to the soul. The depth enclosed me and seaweed was wrapped+ around my head.
I went down to the bottom of the mountains. The earth with her bars was around me forever. Yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God.
When my soul fainted within me, I remembered you Lord and my prayer came in to you, into your holy temple.
Those who succumb+ to lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation belongs to the Lord.
Then the Lord spoke to the fish and it vomited Jonah out onto the dry land.
