Luke Chapter 13

At that same time+, some who were there told Him about the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Jesus answering said to them: Do you suppose that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
I tell you: No. But unless+ you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Or consider those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed+ them. Do you think that they were sinners above all other people+ who lived+ in Jerusalem?
I tell you: No. But unless+ you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Then Jesus spoke this parable also: A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. He came and sought fruit upon it and found none.
Then he said to the dresser of his vineyard: Behold for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and have found none. Cut it down. Why allow it to burden+ the ground?
The vine dresser answering said to his master: Lord, let it alone this year also until I can dig around+ it and fertilize+ it.
If it bears fruit, good. If not, then after that cut it down.
Later on, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
And behold there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years and was bent over+ and unable+ to lift up herself.
When Jesus saw her, He called to her and said: Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.
He laid His hands on her and immediately she was made straight and glorified God.
Since+ Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation and said to the people: There are six days in which people+ ought to work. Therefore, come in those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
Then the Lord answered him and said: You hypocrite. Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his donkey+ from the stall and lead it to water?
Should not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has bound, behold, eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
When He had said these things, all His adversaries were ashamed and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
Then He said: What is the kingdom of God like? To what shall I compare+ it?
It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man cast into his garden, and it grew and became+ a large+ tree and the birds+ of the air lodged in its branches.
Again He said: To what shall I compare+ the kingdom of God?
It is like leaven that a woman hid in three measures of meal until the whole was permeated+.
Then He went throughout the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
Then someone said to Him: Lord, are there few who are being+ saved? He said to them:
Earnestly endeavor+ to enter in through+ the strait gate. For I say to you that many will seek to enter in and will not be able.
Once the master~ of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside+ and to knock at the door saying: Lord, Lord, open to us. He will answer and say to you: I do not know you where you are.
Then you will begin to say: We ate and drank in your presence and you taught in our streets.
But He will say: I tell you, I do not know you where you are. Depart from me all you workers of iniquity.
And there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
They will come from the east and west and from the north and south and will sit down in the kingdom of God.
And behold, there are some who come in last who will be first and there are some who came in first who will be last.
The same day some of the Pharisees came and said to Him: Get out and depart from here, for Herod will kill you.
Jesus said to them: Go and tell that fox: Behold I cast out demons+ and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I will be perfected.
Nevertheless, I must proceed+ today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet shall perish outside+ of Jerusalem.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you kill the prophets and stones those who are sent to you. How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not come.
Now behold your house is left to you desolate. Truly+ I say to you: You will not see me until the time comes when you will say: Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
