Luke Chapter 22 1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread called the Passover drew near.2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill Jesus, because they feared the people.3 Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot who was one of the twelve.4 Judas went away+ and conferred+ with the chief priests and captains to determine how he might betray Jesus to them.5 They were delighted+ and agreed+ to give him money.6 So Judas promised and sought opportunity to betray Jesus to them, in the absence of the multitude.7 Then the day of unleavened bread came, when the Passover lamb must be killed.8 Jesus sent Peter and John saying: Go and prepare the Passover for us so that we may eat.9 They said to Him: Where do you want us to prepare?10 He said to them: Behold, when you have entered the city, there a man will meet you bearing a pitcher of water. Follow him into the house where he enters.11 Say to the head+ of the house: The Master says to you: Where is the guest chamber where I shall eat the Passover with my disciples?12 He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make ready there.13 So they went and found it as Jesus had said to them, and they made preparations+ for the Passover.14 When the hour had come, Jesus sat down and the twelve apostles sat with Him.15 He said to them: It is with a burning desire~ that I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.16 For I say to you: I will not any more eat thereof, until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.17 Then Jesus took the cup, gave thanks, and said: Take this and divide it among yourselves.18 For I say to you: I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.19 Then Jesus took the bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them saying: This is~ my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.20 Likewise, after supper He took the cup and said: This cup represents the new covenant+ in my blood, shed for you.21 But, behold the hand of the one who betrays me is with me on the table.22 Truly the Son of man goes as it was determined. But woe to that man by whom He is betrayed.23 Then they began to inquire among themselves who among them it was that should do this thing.24 And there was also a dispute+ among them regarding who among them should be considered+ the greatest.25 But Jesus said to them: The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.26 But you shall not be that way+. Let those who are to be greatest among you be like the younger, and those who lead+ be as those who serve.27 For who+ is greater? Those who sit down to eat+ or those who serve? Is it not those who sit down to eat+? But I am among you as one who serves.28 You are the ones who have continued with me in my trials+.29 And I appoint to you a kingdom, as my Father has appointed to me.30 So that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.31 Then the Lord said: Simon, Simon. Behold, Satan has desired to have you so that he may sift you as wheat.32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith not fail. When you are converted, strengthen~ the family+ of God.33 Peter said to Him: Lord, I am ready to go with you, both into prison and to death.34 Jesus said: I tell you Peter, the cock will not crow this day before you deny three times that you know me.35 He said to them: When I sent you without purse and provision bag+ and sandals+, did you lack anything? They said: Nothing.36 Then He said to them: But now, let those who have a purse take it, and likewise take a provision bag+. Let those who have no sword sell their clothes and buy one.37 For I say to you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me: He was numbered+ among the transgressors. For the things concerning me have an end. Isaiah 53:1238 They said: Lord, behold here are two swords. He said to them: It is enough.39 Then going forth, as it was His custom+, He went to the Mount of Olives, and His disciples also followed Him.40 When He was at the place, He said to them: Pray so that you do not enter into temptation.41 Then Jesus withdrew about a stone's throw+ away from them and knelt down and prayed42 saying: Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless not my will, but yours be done.43 Then an angel appeared to Him from Heaven, strengthening Him.44 Being in agony, Jesus prayed even more earnestly, and His sweat became+ like+ great drops of blood falling down to the ground.45 When He rose up from prayer and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping, exhausted from sorrow.46 Jesus said to them: Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray lest you enter into temptation.47 While He spoke, behold a multitude came forth, and the one who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them. And Judas drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.48 But Jesus said to him: Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss? Matthew 26:4849 When those who were around+ Jesus saw what would follow, they said to Him: Lord, shall we strike+ with the sword?50 And one of them struck+ the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.51 Jesus answered and said: Do you really condone+ this? And He touched the servant's ear and healed him.52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him: Have you come out as against a thief with swords and staves~?53 When I was with you daily in the temple, you stretched forth no hands against me. But this is your hour and the power~ of darkness.54 Then they took Jesus, led Him away, and brought Him to the high priest's house. And Peter followed from a distance+.55 When they had started+ a fire in the midst of the courtyard+ and everyone sat down together, Peter sat among them.56 Then a certain maid saw+ Peter as he sat by the fire, peered+ intently at him, and said: This man was also with Jesus.57 But Peter denied Jesus saying: Woman, I do not know Him.58 After a little while another noticed+ Peter and said: You are also of them. And Peter said: Man, I am not.59 About one hour later+, another confidently affirmed saying: Truly this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilaean.60 Peter said: Man, I do not know what you say. And immediately, while Peter spoke, the cock crowed+.61 Then the Lord turned and looked upon Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him: Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.62 And Peter went out and wept bitterly.63 Then the men who held Jesus mocked Him and struck+ Him.64 When they had blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him saying: Now prophesy. Who is it that struck+ you?65 And they spoke many other things to Him blasphemously.66 As soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together and led Jesus into their council chambers, saying:67 Are you the Christ? Tell us. He said to them: If I tell you, you will not believe.68 If I also ask you, you will not answer me or let me go.69 Hereafter the Son of man will sit at the right hand of the power of God.70 Then they all said: Are you then the Son of God? And He said to them: You say that I am.71 And they said: What further witness do we need? For we ourselves have heard Him from+ His own mouth.
